If you were trying to fly ANYWHERE in the United States yesterday, we feel immense pity for you.
For the first time since 9/11, every plane was ground yesterday, and the FAA believes they know the reason why: a single corrupted file.
The FAA said in a statement per CNN they would continue to investigate the outage and "take all needed steps to prevent this kind of disruption from happening again," and that "preliminary work has traced the outage to a damaged database file."
The FAA also made sure to note that there was "no evidence of a cyberattack."
By last night, over 1,300 flights had been canceled, and more than 10,000 had been delayed.
Apparently, the system the FAA uses is "very outdated." It comes from 947 and used to be phone-based, though now it's all online.
Politicians are calling for an overhaul, and transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said he agrees it's the "right time" to talk about it and make sure this doesn't happen again.
