Two families sue after their Hamptons resort was two degrees hotter than they wanted

A couple of families from New York were vacationing in the Hamptons, if you ask them, it was an unmitigated disaster.

So much so, the Manhattan attorney and his dentist friend have filed a lawsuit against the Hamptons resort because not only was their safety threatened during their stay, but they were treated like "squatters" in the "uninhabitable" luxury home.

And what was so egregious about their stay?

Well, the owners of the East Quogue, NY home prevented plaintiffs Toby Cohen and Jonathan Neman from turning the air conditioning down two degrees.

Cohen and Newman wanted it at 68, but the house remained at 70, and it ruined their stay.

The filing states that the two families were "forced to endure continuous discomfort for the duration" of their holiday, and when they complained to the owners Agnese Melbarde and Edouard Gass, they evidently didn't rectify the issue and instead, allegedly told their renters to "suck it up and deal."

The suit also claims that in the three-bedroom, two-story house, the "single, small air-conditioning unit controlled by a 'Nest' thermostat" was on the opposite side of the house from the bedrooms, meaning they "received almost no actual airflow from the barely-functional unit."

According to The Daily Beast, the home cost the plaintiffs $10,000 to rent over a 14-day period.

Cohen and Newman are expecting a full refund of their rental, they want the town of Southampton to investigate Melbarde and Gass, fine them for illegally renting out the property, enjoin them from leasing it out in the future, force them to disgorge "all amounts ever paid to them" by other renters, and are also seeking their attorney fees to be covered.
