Selena Palomares of Seguin, Texas says she and her family have been going to Taco Tejano for over 15 years.
Unfortunately, they went one afternoon and denied service, and it was all because of her children.
Palomares told MySanAntonio.com that she intended to eat at Taco Tejano with her mother, and her 2- and 3-year old daughters. Her mom went inside first to secure a table and high chairs, but before Palomares could enter the restaurant her mom came out and said a couple of waiters told her they weren't welcome in Taco Tejano.
Palomares was told they weren't allowed in because, "the kids make a mess and we don't clean up after them."
While Palomares admitted that her kids do drop food on the floor as toddlers do from time to time, she says she's never left a restaurant so messy that someone would need to ban them from eating there in the future. She proceeded to blast Taco Tejano online.
Taco Tejano owner Alicia Sepeda explained her decision saying,"Based on the last time they were in here, I personally made the decision to refuse service to them. Basically, that was all that was said when the mom came in by herself.
"Just because of certain issues we're going to refuse the right to service, period."
Palomares says she doesn't know any of the employees outside of the restaurant setting personally, so nothing was malicious, but she feels a social media post on the Taco Tejano page made her feel like the restaurant was targeting her family intentionally
Sepeda later posted a message to Taco Tejano's social media page further explaining her decision writing, "We hate to have to make a post like this, but there are a few things we feel the need to clear up."
Sepeda wouldn't confirm if that post was referring to Palomares, but she did confirm the t-shirt post was. "It was because of all the comments that were made about the kids because we never said that period, it was said by her, but it wasn't said by us," she said. "You have to find a little bit of humor in it when people bash you."
Palomares' mother and sister both went to the drive-thru to apologize for the incident spreading over social media. Sepeda told the two she appreciated the apology, there are no "hard feelings," and they are still allowed to order in the drive-thru.
However, when asked if the family would be allowed back inside the restaurant, Sepeda replied, "No."
Sepeda explained, "If she's upset about that she could have called me, woman to a woman, and talked to me. I would have been more than happy to talk to her and explain to her why, but at this point, it doesn't really matter why the decision was made and I'm going to stick by it, especially now."
