Amy Bockerstette the first athlete with Down Syndrome to compete in college championship

Amy Bockerstette is a member of the golf team at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, AZ.

Last May, "Amazing Amy" became the first person with Down Syndrome to compete in a national collegiate championship after participating in the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's Golf Championship in Ormond Beach, Florida.


Amy had a notable experience with professional golfer Gary Woodland surprised her with an opportunity to play the famous 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale.

Unfortunately, Paradise Valley Community College did not place in the tournament, but it was still a historic moment for Bockerstette, who is heading into her senior year.

According to Golf Digest, along with her incredible golf career, she also acts as spokesperson for the Special Olympics, was the keynote speaker for the 2019 National Down Syndrome Congress Annual Convention, and created "I Got This" Foundation, its mission to promote golf instruction and playing opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.
