Humans constantly bring up the same arguments because the familiar is comforting, even when it's unhealthy, and also it’s an attempt to handle that old situation better in the present tense.

If you want these repeated fights to end, all y’all need to do is show each other a little mercy, and know that you both came to this spot honestly.

Sometimes your worst memories get stirred up without you even realizing it, and until you truly address and resolve that "old stuff," they will just keep repeating and repeating, and they will continue to do so until you “learn the lesson, shift your mindset, and chose a new behavior or response.”
