Last night, the Weatherford High School Eagles met the Anadarko High School Warriors in a matchup of a couple of Oklahoma high school basketball powerhouses.
Weatherford, ranked No. 3 in the state, defeated Anadarko, ranked No. 9, in a thrilling, back-to-back game with a final score of….4 – 2.
Yes, you read that right.
The low score comes as a result of a strategy employed by Anadarko, who were trying to steal a win apparently from Weatherford.
According to KHON, Oklahoma is one of about 40 states where high school basketball games do not use a shot clock. So Anadarko thought that if they secured an early lead, they could hold the ball for the majority of the game, and eventually win.
Obviously, though that strategy failed to get Anadarko a win, it did succeed in creating one of the most boring basketball games to watch in history.
The sped-up video is really fun, though.
The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association almost voted for the implementation of a shot clock beginning in 2024, but the president's vote against the shot clock delayed the installation.
Surely following this game, another conversation about implementing a shot clock will be had.
