Montgomery County High School senior Jacob Bradley just signed a letter of intent, which is an exciting day for any teen looking ahead to the next step in their lives.
While letter of intents are usually reserved for those entering college, and more often than not to play a sport at the next level, Bradley's is just slightly different.
Bradley recently signed a letter of intent to begin working as a plumber's apprentice at Fast Flow Plumbing. Bradley told Fox Lexington, "I never really wanted to be an accountant or sit down. I enjoy working with my hands a lot."
Counselor Lacy Gross said this was the first non-athletic signing event for the high school.
Bradley's parents were by his side as he signed his letter, and they couldn't have been more proud. His mother Angie said, "His dad and I are just over the moon. He's a great kid. We are very lucky to have him."
Ben Crum, Vice President of Fast Flow Plumbing, said that half of Bradley's day is in a classroom, and the other half is handiwork. He'll sometimes works 32 hours a week in addition to his school work.
Crum said, "We are willing to invest in anyone that comes to us. We want to make sure they have the opportunity in two years to get their journeyman's license."
After two years, Bradley will hopefully have earned his journeyman's license, at which point he will work another two years to take an exam to become a master plumber. Journeymen plumber's pay averages between $40,000 and $120,000 per year and in Kentucky, Master plumbers can own and operate their own companies.
Bradley sees himself working with Fast Flow Plumbing long into the future, though. He says, "Maybe I'll be a Fast Flow Plumbing franchise owner."
