Parents are always looking for educators to be more "hands-on" with their students. We can only assume that means keepings hands off of dangerous weapons.
A teacher at a high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico was fired for holding a "sword fight day" in the middle of her classroom.
Apparently, the chemistry teacher was trying to teach a lesson on "metal and melding," and brought various types of swords for her students to try out themselves. She had the students rearrange their desks into a fighting ring, and had kids battle it out for two minutes.
Unfortunately, one student suffered a serious gash on her wrist that severed multiple nerves and tendons. She ended up needing to have surgery.
The lawsuit states that in video from the incident, the teacher can be heard saying, "I'm in trouble" and asking students to delete the footage from their phones.
According to NBC News, nobody called 911 for 30 minutes after the girl was wounded. The girl's injuries were extensive beyond complete repair, resulting in permanent injury to her hand and wrist.
The teacher was fired, and the parents are seeking an undisclosed amount.
