The upcoming Dallas Cowboys season will look different in many ways, one of them being linebacker Jaylon Smith's jersey number. Since the NFL changed their policy on which positions held which range of available digits, Smith can now wear a single numeral.
During his college career at Notre Dame, Smith was a standout player, even winning the coveted Butkus Award. As a member of the Fighting Irish, the athlete wore #9.

Once the league's uniform rules changed, Jaylon expressed his desire to swap his current #54 to his former #9. Cowboys fans had mixed reactions since quarterback Tony Romo had worn the number his entire career with the team (13 seasons). Smith didn't let that stop him.
On Tuesday, the news was announced that Smith had spoken to Romo and he would officially be making the change. Per NFL guidelines, the Hot Boy will have to buy out all of the former stock of #9 jerseys, shirts, hats, etc. The move will cost him mid-six figure range according to ESPN. A price he's willing to pay.
