Excellent news coming out about Rangers outfielder Josh Smith. On Monday, he was hit in the face by an errant pitch from Orioles reliever Danny Couloumbe, and it looked downright nasty.
Thankfully, Smith was able to walk off the field under his own power, and after being taken to an area hospital for further treatment only needed six stitches to mend the wound. Nothing was broken, chipped, and he didn't suffer a concussion in the incident.
Rangers manager Bruce Bouchy told NBC DFW after the game, "He got hit in the face area, in the lower jaw. We did take him to (the) ER. He had some CT tests. They came out clean. So, we got good news there. He's feeling better as I'm speaking right now.
"Tomorrow, we'll just reevaluate him."
Smith thanked fans for their support on Twitter, and noted that he hopes on being "back on the field soon."
The Rangers acquired Smith (along with infielder Ezequiel Duran) in a trade with the Yankees that sent outfielder Joey Gallo to New York.
