Last November, Doug and Nicole Potts in Kentucky separated after 12 years of marriage, stating their marriage was "irretrievably broken" when they filed the divorce proceedings.

The couple had ironed out the details of their divorce, and had even come up with a co-parenting plan for their young daughter. However, a judge had different ideas about their separation.

During a court appearance, where the Potts were getting the divorce approved, Judge Monika Meredith DENIED the request, telling the couple "I get the vibe that you all might be able to work this out..."

Judge Meredith then asked if reconciliation counseling would help the couple, or asked if they were past that. Even though Nicole told the judge they WERE past that, but Meredith ordered it anyway.

Nicole's attorney told Wave3, "Being told to stay with your ex when you both agree it's over is pretty stunning." Doug's attorney added, "This is something really nobody would've seen coming."

Both attorneys have asked the judge to reconsider.
