There's nothing worse for a parent than when their child talks back to them.
Well, we have some bad news for you folks...kids who talk back may actually grow up to be better adults.
Essentially, when kids talk back to their parents, they're "trying to exert some sense of control over their own lives." According to YourTango, psychologist Joseph P. Allen explained to "not think of those arguments not as a nuisance but as a critical training ground."
Experts agree that kids are independent beings with their own thoughts, feelings, and ideas, and while it's your privilege supervising them on their journey, their journey is still their own, not yours.
For kids to grow into healthy, independent adults, they need to practice making decisions for themselves, and negotiating for what they want. Unfortunately, that may involve a little back talking.
