Though Clayton Kershaw does not play for the Texas Rangers, the Los Angeles Dodgers-pitcher teamed up with several players on his hometown team to help deliver food and supplies to an Oak Cliff neighborhood.
Kershaw, along with Rangers Taylor Hearn, Demarcus Evans, executives Chris Young and Jon Daniels, and Matt Kemp, a former ballplayer and teammate of Kershaw's who lives in Dallas, teamed up for the Players Alliance "Pull Up Neighbor" Tour, a 33-city coast-to-coast tour aimed to help bring relief to hard-hit predominantly Black communities across the country.
Kershaw, who grew up in Dallas and attended Highland Park High School, said, "To be able to feed kids that might not have the food they need, why wouldn't you want to be a part of that? I think what this tour is doing, going from city to city, is amazing stuff."
Despite the tumultuous week the country has faced, pitcher Taylor Hearn said it was important for them to be out there. He said, "It was so cold, I kind of lost feeling in my fingers for a while. But it still felt great. There was a feeling of accomplishment, of a step in the right direction. It's a slow process, but it feels like people are getting more aware and being supportive. It feels like everybody is pulling on the same rope. It's people like Clayton and Trevor and all those people from the Rangers showing up. To see all those people engaged, was a great feeling. There has been a lot going on lately, but this felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. There were good vibes. It just felt good to be able to help others out."
