We've heard countless tragic tales of lottery winners losing all of their prize money because of "distant relatives" or long-lost friends coming out of the woodwork to try and snag a piece of the pie.
Well this dude in China has the right idea to avoid all of that.
When "Mr. Li," a fake name, arrived to pick up his check for $30 million, he was dressed head to toe in costume, with plans to hide his winnings from his family, including his wife and kids, until he figures out what he's going to do with the jackpot.
Mr. Li reportedly said in a statement per Fox, "I didn't tell my wife and children, because I was afraid that they would be too inflated and would not work or work hard in the future."
Mr. Li also said he felt "nervous," and had trouble sleeping after he learned he won the lottery. He reportedly drove to Nanning, the site of the lottery's headquarters, a day later and stayed down in a hotel because he feared losing his winning tickets.
The Guangxi Welfare Lottery estimated that Mr. Li's take-home prize after taxes will amount to nearly 171.5 yuan, approximately $23.6 million.
