Police officers are taught to always expect the unexpected, but even we think there's nothing in the handbook that could have prepared these officers for this.

Officers in Lake County, Michigan attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling at a "high rate of speed," but it fled.

After a brief chase which ended with the vehicle crashing into a couple of trees, officers arrested the 40-year-old driver on multiple charges, and deputies determined he had "several warrants from another jurisdiction."

However, dealing with the driver's passenger was a whole different story...the man was riding with an alligator in his car.  An alligator named Karen.

According to UPI, Karen "attempted to flee the scene, but was taken into custody after a short scuffle.

Per a post on the Lake County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, "Karen is not facing any charges at this time. We believe she was an unwilling participant during the incident, nor do we believe she was ever in control of the vehicle."
