A Pakistani man named Shahzeb Anwer suffered from kidney stones every day for a year and could not find effective treatment in his home country.
After looking into traveling to Turkey, Singapore, the UK, and India for treatment, Anwer found that the most effective surgery would be performed at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
So Anwer packed his bags and headed for America.
Anwer researched Birmingham extensively before heading out, even frequently posting on Birmingham's Subreddit seeking advice on buying clothes, where to stay, and even how to make friends.
Anwer says the response was "overwhelming"
He told CBS 42, "People responded in a way that I wouldn't even expect from my own people in Pakistan."
Anwer grew to love the city, and the community that embraced him so wholeheartedly, that upon his return to Pakistan following his procedure, he wants to give something back to the town that gave him so much.
So posting to Reddit once again, Anwer invited the entire subreddit community to his wedding, noting that they could bring anyone from Birmingham with them.
Anwer's wedding took place on May the 22nd, and it's unclear how much of Birmingham made it, but they were all invited, and that's all that matters.
