When Emma Young suits up tomorrow night for Mansfield Timberview, the 15-year-old sophomore will be making history.

Young will become the first girl, on the typically all-boys varsity football team, to play in a playoff game.

Young, a soccer player, tried out for the team before the season.  She started on JV, and eventually worked her way up to varsity.  She told Fox 4, "I'm used to kicking a ball, so, I mean, it can't be that much different than soccer, right?"

Besides, football is in her blood; her dad Jason has been the defensive line coach at Timberview for the past 16 seasons!

Jason said, "She can hit it. So I was like, well, that's not too bad."

Young wears no. 87, just like her father used to.

"It was my dad's football number," she says.  "It's been in the family, so might as well carry on the tradition."

Timberview is scheduled to play Frisco Heritage Friday night.
