No Dallas Maverick will ever wear No. 41 again.
The Mavs announced that during an upcoming game next January, the team will retire the number of the greatest player in franchise history Dirk Nowitzki.
Mark Cuban confirmed to Joe Trahan of WFAA that Nowitzki's number will be retired during the Mavs' January 5, 2022 game against the Golden State Warriors. Cuban said, "It's going to be amazing."
Nowitzki played the final game of his career, all of which was spent with Dallas, April 9, 2019. Since then, he's become a special advisor to the team, and has had a street named after him. And the next step? The Hall of Fame.
Not bad for the GOAT.
