In a season that's been rife with positive COVID tests, the Dallas Mavericks have added another member to the list. Head coach Jason Kidd entered NBA health and safety protocols on Thursday, just one day after Dirk Nowitzki's jersey ceremony.

Kidd's positive results come as no surprise after a string of players and coaches have been part of a domino effect dating back to December 19, 2021, when Reggie Bullock and Josh Green were forced to sit out along with a couple of assistant coaches. A few days later on December 22, 2021, the Mavs added Luka Dončić, Tim Hardaway, Jr., Trey Burke, and Maxi Kleber to the docket.
In the same week, Marquese Chriss, Theo Pinson, Charlie Brown Jr., Brandon Knight, Carlik Jones, George King, JaQuori McLaughlin, and Boban Marjanović were also counted out due to league policy.
Jason Kidd remarked, "It’s funny because when you wake up you’re just wondering who’s out, and first thing in the morning early, when you check your phone [to learn] who’s out. Then there’s a time between two and three in the afternoon to give you another update of who’s out. So, when you think you’ve dodged one, you still have to wait for that second test.”
On January 2, 2022, Kristaps Porzingis was included in the lineup. On Thursday, January 6th, Coach Kidd also tested positive. The team confirmed it in a Twitter post.
Here's hoping Dirk Nowitzki, Mark Cuban, Shawn Marion, CeeDee Lamb, Amari Cooper and others who were in contact with Kidd on Wednesday night won't be affected. On a related note, why didn't the NBA just do another bubble?!
