As an elected official there's a certain level of decorum you should maintain throughout your daily life. You represent the people, and should act accordingly to represent that fact.
Throwing your crack out of your car window during a high-speed chase with the police probably isn't the best way to do that.
56-year-old Tim Currier was elected mayor of the town of 12,000 Massena, New York six years ago, but recently has found himself in the middle of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for selling drugs. That investigation came to a head last Tuesday when the authorities went to arrest him. And he took off in his vehicle.
As Currier sped through an intersection, police noticed the mayor throwing CRACK out of his car window! The police were able to catch up to him, and he was arrested on several charges, including possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, and failure to comply.
Currier also announced he has taken a leave of absence from his mayoral duties to "seek professional treatment."
