The days of filling up your own cup of soda at McDonald’s will soon be coming to an end.
The chain announced they will begin phasing out self-serving soda machines in all of their restaurants, with them completely removed by 2032.
Per NBC DFW, McDonald’s says they intend to create “a consistent experience for both McDonald’s workers and their customers at all ordering points.” Mikel Petro, an Illinois McDonald’s operator, told the State Journal-Register earlier this month, “It’s an evolution towards convenience and (the result of) the growth of digital service.”
Other McDonald’s franchise owners cited theft prevention, food safety, and fewer dine-in customers as contributing factors for getting rid of the self-serving stations.
