Ask someone to name a famous movie dog, and most folks will probably answer: "Benji." The wire-haired pup became a household name for kids growing up in the 70s through the 00s. Fun fact: Much of the original 1974 hit movie was filmed in McKinney.

In honor of the film's 50th anniversary, the city is erecting a statue of the beloved mutt. Artist Susan Norris has been commissioned to create the piece which will be located on the corner of Tennessee and Virginia streets. It will be unveiled in 2023.
