How much does a single adult need to make each year to be able to survive? According to MIT, it varies by state. The school created a calculator that factors in the cost of food, healthcare, housing, transportation, personal necessities, clothing, housekeeping supplies, cell phone, Wi-Fi, pets, and outings to clubs, theaters, or museums.

It also considers each state’s minimum wage and weighs their consumer spending patterns. For Texas, they concluded the average person can live off of $29,134 BEFORE taxes. I'm no math major, but I'm pretty sure they need to adjust their prices for the 21st century.
