The job market these days seems to change daily, but there is one field of study that is apparently "flourishing."  You might even say, people are dying to get into it.

According to a new report from CNN, mortuary schools are seeing an incredible jump in enrollment amid a shortage of funeral industry workers.

According to the American Board of Funeral Service Education, there was nearly a 25% jump last year in new students signing up for accredited mortuary science programs across the nation.

That enrollment percentage is expected to rise even more in 2022!

There's a growing interest due to the "shorter on-ram" from the first day of school to getting a job, and a modest but solid salary range.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2021, the median wage for morticians, undertakers, and funeral arrangers was close to $50,000.

And for funeral home managers, the median salary jumps to $74,000.

There's also been a great increase in women looking to enter the mortuary sciences, which has traditionally been a male-dominated field.

Ed Michael Reggie of the online service Funeralocity says it "makes sense," and noted women's "empathetic bent" and their ability to perhaps better assist families during the formidable process of death.
