The abundance of Airbnbs and short-term rentals across Dallas could seriously see a decline thanks to a new proposal which would prevent them from operating in neighborhoods zoned for residential use.
In fact, Dallas city staff told council members that defining short-term rentals, like the ones listed on Airbnb and Vrbo as lodging, would eliminate about 95% of the rentals operating in the city.
The City Plan Commission has recommended that the city define short-term rentals as lodging use, which would make them illegal in residential neighborhoods.
For years, Dallas residents have levied complaints that short-term rentals have brought loud parties, trash, and even shootings to their neighborhoods.
According to FOX 4, the full City Council is set to discuss the ordinance that would define short-term rentals as a lodging use at its briefing on Tuesday, April 4.
