Even though the drinking age is 21-years-old, new research shows that young folks shouldn't even consider picking up the bottle for almost another two decades.
According to a study from the University of Washington, people under 40 are at a much greater risk for health complications derived from drinking than those over 40.
According to Fox News, the health risks associated with those under 40 drinking include "auto accidents, injury, and even murder." Additionally, those under age 40 received no health benefits AT ALL from drinking alcohol.
People over 40, however, may benefit from a limited consumption of alcohol, as long as they have no underlying health risks.
According to the researchers, "Our message is simple: Young people should not drink, but older people may benefit from drinking small amounts."
