A Dallas institution will be closing its doors for good in early 2023.
After 11 serving the community for 11 years, the original Velvet Taco, located on Henderson and the North Central Expressway, will be closing up shop January 2, 2023.
CEO Clay Dover tells the Dallas Morning News the lease is up, and it's time for the original building to "hit the history books."
The company has plans to continue its expansion across North Texas and then on to Nashville, Waco, Oklahoma City, Austin, and Miami.
Employees at the Henderson location have been given the option to move to the new Velvet Taco near Elm Street and Good-Latimer Expressway in Deep Ellum, which is expected to open Jan. 16, 2023.
Dover believes this new location will also better serve customers with the late-night munchies; the new restaurant will stay open until 4 a.m. on weekends.
The original Velvet Taco sign will be saved and displayed inside the company's headquarters in Far North Dallas, where it will serve as a reminder for Dover and his team of the original, "an essential part of the brand," he says.
