It's amazing how police forces are able to train dogs to sniff out illegal drugs.  We don't know how those pups do it.

What's even more head-scratching is now even otters are getting in on the action.

Splash is a sea otter who is currently being trained by Peace River Search and Rescue in Florida to conduct underwater search-and-rescue missions.

Evidently, otters are the only mammals with the ability to smell under water, so it makes sense to utilize their talents for the greater good.

Mike Hadsell, a veteran search and rescue diver and president of Peace River Search and Rescue, told KSDK, "If (a body) gets into a canal or river and an alligator gets to them before we do, the gator will take the remains and stuff it somewhere, and it makes it very difficult to find. The dogs get us into the area but they can't get us from the boat to the bottom.

"The otters get us from the boat to the bottom to show us exactly where the remains are located."

It will only take a couple of months more of training before Splash will be sent out to help divers go directly to victims and evidence.
