In just a week's time, the Dallas Cowboys will be heading to Oxnard, California for their annual pre-season training camp.
And though expectations for the team are high, there's a group of people who aren't too excited about the kickoff to the Cowboys' new season: residents of Oxnard.
Specifically, those folks who live right next to the Cowboys' training camp facilities, in a community called The Gallery at River Ridge.
According to the Dallas Morning News, some of the residents of the neighborhood filed a complaint to the city of Oxnard and have hired attorneys, after they say the Cowboys "built a tall, temporary structure inches from their properties without notice."
A club spokesperson said the tent-like platform will be used to "entertain special guests during camp practices in Oxnard." Residents say the structure "has compromised their security and privacy, obstructed a view for which they paid a premium, blocked essential garden sunlight, and ultimately reduced their home value."
The Cowboys say they have tried to facilitate a good relationship with the residents of The Gallery at River Ridge. Director of Cowboys security Cable Johnson says he supplies residents his direct contact information and meets with them before camp each year to address and mitigate concerns.
However, residents whose homes back right up to the facility seem to disavow any goodwill the Cowboys try to extend.
Resident Clarence Thompsan says, "We've been dealing with the noise. We understand they have to play their music for the players, and we've been nice about it. We haven't complained about it being like a rock concert out there. So, we've been nice. I think the Cowboys took our kindness as weakness, and they kind of crossed a line.
"They're like, 'Oh, these neighbors. They don't care. We can do whatever we want. We can erect about a 30-foot structure from the ground up, and then we'll build a tent.' It obstructs our entire view from two floors."
