It won’t be long before thousands of children will line the lawns outside the White House for the annual Easter Egg Roll.  It’s a tradition that dates back hundreds of years, but as with any tradition, there can always be room for improvement.

PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has implored the White House, and specifically First Lady Jill Biden, to swap out eggs for its annual roll for the more environmental, and animal friendly, potatoes.

In an open letter posted to PETA’s website, Newkirk argued that a potato roll "would be truly inclusive and welcomed by every tot who doesn’t eat eggs for religious, cultural, or environmental reasons or because they object to the way animals are raised and killed these days."

PETA also argued that swapping eggs for potatoes would “support U.S. potato farmers and teach tots that our fellow animals are sensitive, feeling beings who deserve respect.”  That’s just one of the many puns throughout the letter.

Fox News reached out to PETA and the White House for comment.
