OPINION: Pinterest bans weight loss ads

Effective today, the site will no longer allow images that could be considered body shaming.

I'm not on Pinterest, but with their 'revolutionary' announcement today, I don't plan to join. The image-sharing platform said they will no longer allow weight loss ads. The social media site has banned advertisements that could potentially cause unhealthy eating habits. This is silly, in my opinion. What's next? No more skin regimen ads because people with acne might be offended? The whole point of a commercial is to give people an opportunity to change things they are unhappy with.

They will still accept promotions about "healthy lifestyles" they just won't allow before-and-after photos or BMI numbers. If they're hoping to clear up insecurities, they're going to also have to get rid of moisturizers because women with wrinkles might have their feelings hurt. Also, no more hair care products because if I have straight or curly or blonde or black tresses and can't adjust that, I might get upset. Maybe I'll start my own site called Thinterest for people, like myself, who do have a few inches to shed and aren't afraid to learn new ways to help achieve that goal.
