A year of random acts of kindness continues for the Oceanside Police Department in California, which was inspired by a Secret Santa donation of $20,000 perform these random acts throughout 2022.
Each month, the department is planning a new surprise for the community, and this month involved surprising strangers with $100 bills outside a grocery store to help pay for their groceries!
ABC 10 was there to witness officers surprising shoppers outside of a Stater's Bros store. One woman didn't believe they were just handing out cash. She said, "Are you serious? I never thought of anything like that happening, it's remarkable, takes your breath away."
One man even declined the cash telling the officers, "Why don't you give it to someone who needs it more?"
One mother stopped dead in her tracks when Officer Jelena Sosa handed her one of the $100 bills, and she was instantly speechless.
Officer Sosa looked, "Seeing that and seeing the impression I left her today with her daughter, it makes me feel good. It reminds me every day why I do this job. It kinda takes me back to why I first joined this career was to help those who can't necessarily help themselves, to protect those who can't necessarily protect themselves."
