Growing up as an obnoxious and mouthy teen, did any adult ever accuse you of having a “smart mouth?”

Little did they know how right they were!

Researchers in Canada believe that sarcasm is actually a sign of intelligence!

According to Penny Pexman, a psycholinguist at the University of Calgary, sarcasm requires the brain to jump through numerous hoops to arrive at a correct interpretation, requiring more “brainpower than literal statements.”

Researchers also say that sarcasm is also a sign of maturity, believing that it takes “years” for a child's developing brain to fully grasp and master it.   "It can be quite challenging," Pexman told the BBC.
