The "Irish Goodbye" is when you leave a party or function without telling anybody "goodbye."  You just slip away unannounced.

Some might consider it rude, but research has shows that not saying goodbye when you leave a party can actually extend your life!

Researchers from the UNSW's Time Management Institute found that saying goodbye at a party generally can take up to 45 minutes, and because the average person goes to around 25 parties per year, a person can spend "an average of 18 hours and 45 minutes each year saying goodbye."

By  just slipping away from a party, you avoid slipping into a trap of providing the same excuse to multiple people on why you are leaving, and can save an average of two days of their life per year!

Wayne Canning told Double Bay Today that the "backdoor benny" has become his standard practice, and that "saying goodbye typically used to account for the most social activity I did all night.  It's way too draining. Nowadays I always just go for the clean exit."
