State Fair of Texas announces the ten finalists for Big Tex Choice Awards

After a break last year due to the pandemic, the Big Tex Choice Awards are back!

Earlier this morning, the State Fair announced the ten finalists, five savory and five sweet, for the food competition, and they all look and sound INCREDIBLE.

The five Savory finalists include:

-Crispy Crazy Corn
"whole kernel corn battered, fried and seasoned, then topped with pork and pineapple slaw"

-Deep Fried I-35
"fried kolache dough topped with smoked beef brisket and drizzled with peach juice combined with Dr Pepper"

-Deep-fried seafood gumbo balls
"fried bites loaded with shrimp, crab and sausage, then rolled in saltine cracker and breadcrumb batter and topped chicken fried okra spears"

-Lucky duck dumplin'
"a pastry filled with cream cheese, blended with duck bacon and roasted sweet corn"

-Pork shots
"Texas smoked sausage wrapped in bacon and filled with mac and cheese"

The five Sweet finalists are:

-The Armadillo
"cookie butter ice cream sandwich shaped like an armadillo"

-Brisket brittle
"a traditional brittle, where peanuts are replaced with Texas brisket"

-Deep-fried Halloween
"a large pretzel covered in candy corn syrup, topped with sprinkles, filled with orange and white icing, and topped with more candy"

-Fernie’s fried toffee coffee crunch cake
"cake doughnuts dipped in panko and vanilla cookie crumbs, then fried"

-Texas pumpkin poke cake
"Texas-shaped pumpkin cake with vanilla glaze and caramel"

According to the Dallas News, the winners will be announced August 29th!
