We are right on the heels of the State Fair of Texas returning for its annual run, and if you're a frequent visitor with some high school-aged children, you might want to read up on the fair's new policy regarding minors.

Beginning this year, fairgoers who are 17 years old or younger need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian after 5 p.m.

Further, no parent, guardian, or chaperone may accompany no more than six minors at a time, and will require said guardian to present an ID to enter the fair after 5 p.m.

However, once inside the fairground, the guardians need not be present or remain with the minors, though fair officials still encourage "they stay in communication with each other and be aware of their location on the fairgrounds during their visit."

The new policy comes as a result of a false shooting scare that occurred last year, which was caused by fairgoers running through the crowd "trying to create chaos."

A spokesperson told WFAA at the time that things quickly returned to normal throughout the fairgrounds, with people again lining up for rides and food stalls, but the policy was developed to prevent a sort of scare like that from happening again.
