Making friends is tough at any age, and it appears that once your circle is formed, it stays that way forever.

A new study from HealthDay found that the average person has around 4-5 friends.  Now you may consider a lot of people your friends, or you're friendly with a lot, but how many of those "friends" do you routinely hang out with or communicate regularly with?

The American Friendship project actually compared this figure with figures from 50 years ago and found that folks half a century ago also only had about 4-5 friends, each.

On a sadder note, about 2% of people said they have no friends at all.
