13-year-old Grady Ferranti had a busy weekend this past weekend.

The teen was trying to raise money in order to attend a couple of baseball tournaments with his traveling team.

Grady told KHOU in Houston, "My dad got laid off from his job, so it wasn't very easy. We were struggling. And it was harder for me to stay in sports, it was a struggle."

Grady and his father knew they had to creative in order to raise enough funds, so last Saturday they made a dozen of tamales and took them to the intersection of Spencer Highway and Underwood Road in La Porte to start selling them.

Grady's father John said, "It was just on a whim. I thought ... we can make tamales (and) he can walk around the neighborhood to sell them. We can raise a couple hundred bucks. He one-upped me and wanted to sell waters as well."

And the community turned out!

The pair completely sold out of tamales on Saturday, and they returned the following Sunday and sold out again!

One patron even said, "You are doing a really good job. You are going places."

Grady said he was grateful for his community showing up.  "It feels good ... knowing they have my back. It's a great feeling," he said."

And thankfully, Grady raised enough money to attend both tournaments in Dallas and College Station, and even has enough cash left over for some new gear!
