This past Thursday afternoon near the Pennybacker Bridge overlook in Austin, a dog named Stout fell 70 feet off a cliff and landed on the ground below.

The story has a happy ending, however, as nearby where Stout fell, paramedic Bob Luddy was doing some rope training and heard the cries for help.

A representative from the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services said, "After the owner identified where the dog had fallen from, Capt. Luddy rigged an anchor strap to a tree, attached a rappel line and safety line to the anchor, and rappelled down the cliff face."

When Luddy rappelled down to Stout, he feared the worst, but found the pup was "miraculously, mostly unharmed." Luddy said, "He must have fallen about 70 feet, and hit a few branches and bushes on the way down. I was ecstatic to find him in such good condition."

Though it appeared Stout didn't have a scratch on him, after the happy reunion, Luddy sent Stout and his owner directly to the emergency vet to make sure everything was okay.
