An estimated 60 million kids participate in sports every year, this according to an article from HuffPost.
And though the debate has raged throughout time on focusing too much on sports and not enough on academics, sports has proven to have a multitude of benefits for kids that extend beyond the playing field.
Pediatrician Dr. Krupa Playforth told the publication, "There are many developmental benefits to sports for children that extend beyond the benefits of actual physical exercise."
The four ways Dr. Playforth believe sports can benefit kids include:
- They can lower children's risk of depression and anxiety risk throughout their lifetime.
- They can help foster a lifelong love of movement.
- They may be less likely to be lonely — even as adults.
- Those who play sports are better at time management.
The most important thing to remember though: The biggest benefits for kids comes when they're having FUN!
