This could potentially be one of the biggest jewelry heists in modern history.

It took some thieves less than 30 minutes to completely ransack a Brinks security truck stuffed with jewelry.

The truck was in Lebec, California, with one of the armed drivers inside a rest stop, a Flying J Travel Center, getting some food.  His partner, the other armed Brinks driver, was asleep inside the vehicle the ENTIRE TIME!

The security company alleges that the driver "did not see or hear anything unusual" during a 27-minute period in which the trailer's plastic seal was removed and its rear lock "cut away."

All in all, 22 bags of jewelry was stolen, amounting to over $100 million!

Authorities have been scant on the details, though Sgt. Michael Mileski of the sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau told NBC Los Angeles, "You cannot move 100 feet without being captured on video."

Sgt. Mileski also confirmed that one of the drivers was asleep inside the vehicle when the crime was committed, attributing the information to the Brink's drivers.

The loss of the merchandise has devastated the 13 jewelers, with the owners of one of the businesses, Lam's Jade Center in L.A., writing in a letter to Brink's that their "whole life savings has been totally wiped out."

The investigation is ongoing.
