Army veteran David Jordan opened Patriot Sandwich Shop Co in February, 2020, but unfortunately had to close its doors in November, 2021 due to running out of funds.

Jordan was counting on a payment of $86,000 in Restaurant Revitalization Fund money, though it never materialized.

Jordan told the Dallas Morning News, "I had no idea what I was going to do with myself. I was looking at having to have judgments placed against me, because they were going to come after me personally for the money. I was scared I was going to lose everything."

Well, an anonymous woman saw a previous story about Jordan, and offered him a little relief of her own. The woman offered to write Jordan a check for $45,000, no strings attached, in order to get his business back open.

With the gift, Jordan was able to get square with the landlord, pay the utility companies and taxes, and had enough cash leftover to buy food.

However, Patriot Sandwich Co. will operate for the time being on razor-thin margins, with Jordan being the only true staff member working in the restaurant; an Army veteran and his daughter have offered to work in the shop for free.

The restaurant is adorned with military artifacts mean to inspire and educate customers. And Jordan is still making sure he keeps his costs low; sandwiches cost between $8 and $10, and kids' meals are just $5.

"I didn't start this shop to get rich," Jordan says. "I started this shop to bring awareness to the homeless veteran issue."
