Karlayna Platt is a published author from Westlake, who just last week published her first book Inspire Your Power. She also happens to only be 15-years-old and a sophomore at Westlake Academy.
Inspire Your Power is a passion project for Platt, who wrote it to inspire other children with dyslexia, of which she was diagnosed with in the third grade. What started as simple journal musings eventually turned into a full-fledged book.
Platt old NBC DFW, "As I was going through it, I realized that I was creating something more for empowerment and confidence. So it just turned into this book that is really to inspire children and to let them understand that they can do anything that they want. It's incredible. I never thought that I would become a published author!"
With the book, Platt says her goals is to empower students diagnosed with dyslexia, and fill them with hope and joy in their own lives, and wants other children to know they're not alone. "That I believe in them and they can get through anything that they put their mind to. Not to let dyslexia define you. It is more of a strength than a weakness," she said.
Inspire Your Power is available for purchase on Amazon, and Platt is donating book proceeds to local educational nonprofit, Chance To Soar.
