El Paso police confirmed that this past weekend, a Texas woman jumped into the monkey enclosure at the El Paso Zoo and began feeding them Flamin' Hot Cheetos.
The woman, later identified as El Paso woman Lucy Rae, was not hurt in the little stunt, and Mason Kleist, a zookeeper at facility, considers the woman "stupid and lucky." He told KVIA, "These are primates we're talking about, they could do some substantial damage to you. They may be small monkey's but they can take you to the ground if they wanted to."
And luckily, Libby and Sunday, the spider monkeys, weren't harmed either. Kleist says the monkeys have a specialized diet, obviously one that doesn't involve Flamin' Hot Cheetos, and Rae also put the monkeys at risk of catching COVID-19.
The zoo confirmed they will be pressing charges against Rae, who used to be employed as a litigation assistant in the personal injury division of the Lovett Law Firm, though she has since been let go from the job.
