A jail in Tupelo, Mississippi received a fax earlier this month that said it was time for the release of one of its inmates. That's not uncommon, that's how the jail receives these kinds of notices.
However, they found some "irregularities" with the request.
The jail called the courthouse to scope the validity of the request, and the people at the courthouse had no idea they were talking about...because they didn't send it. The police started investigating, and eventually found who did.
The cops found the number the fax came from had been "spoofed" by Stephanie House, the inmate's 28-year-old girlfriend who was attempting to bust her man out of the joint.
She was arrested Thursday and confessed to sending the fake fax to get her boyfriend out of jail. She's facing fraud charges.
The police also found drug paraphernalia on House at the time of her arrest, so she's facing charges for that, too.
