Our Dr. Miles Intervention this morning comes from a woman named Natalie who recently, with her husband, had to move into his parents home.
The couple had to sell their home last summer after losing both their jobs during the pandemic, after only living in it for a couple of months.
Though Natalie is very gracious for her husband's parents allowing them to stay in their home, she does have one issue with the arrangement: her father-in-law likes to walk around in his underwear. Sometimes in just his underwear.
Natalie has confronted her husband about his father's habit, but he refuses to say anything to his dad because he knows he's "old school," and he'll just say something like "My house, my rules!"
It gets really weird for Natalie when her husband goes into work and she is just left at the house with his mom and dad. Sometimes his mom will tell her husband, "Oh, Jim go put some sweatpants on," and her father-in-law will respond with "let me enjoy my coffee in peace."
Natalie says she's about to lose her mind, and it's getting close to a point where she'll just move in with her parents until she and her husband can afford a home of their own.
How far does a mindset like "My house, my rules" extend if it's obviously making the guest uncomfortable?
On top of that, this is his son's wife after all.
