Women rule the roost, there’s no doubt that, but there is a changing of the tides regarding the household projects many used to consider strictly a “man’s job.”

The poll, which was conducted by Wickes, found that most women were taking on far more DIY tasks than their mothers and grandmothers, with more than a third saying they are the best at DIY in their household.

Design historian Professor Deborah Sugg Ryan says the poll showed how women had “swept away financial, legal and other restraints to take the lead on DIY,” and that the poll reflected a shift in attitude, as the days of women serving just as assistants and needing to be guided by men were gone.

Ryan says reality TV and social media were inspiring women to tackle more DIY projects.  “It’s amazing to see the shift in attitudes,” she told The Sun.”
