NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Multiple media, retail and international government sites and apps are back online after an apparent widespread outage at a cloud service company early Tuesday morning.
Websites for the New York Times, CNN, the Financial Times and Bloomberg News all went down across the globe.
Visitors trying to access CNN.com got a message that said: "Fastly error: unknown domain: cnn.com.''
TechCrunch reports Reddit, Spotify, Twitch, Stack Overflow, GitHub, Hulu, HBO Max, Shopify, PayPal, Vimeo and more were also impacted. The U.K. government's home page also could not be reached.
Amazon's retail website also seemed to face an outage.
Amazon has yet to comment.
The cloud service company Fastly confirmed on its status page that it has been dealing with an outage.
Fastly said it was "continuing to investigate the issue" before resolving the problem around 7 a.m.
"The issue has been identified and a fix has been applied. Customers may experience increased origin load as global services return," Fastly said in its latest update.
