While reboots and reimaginings have been all the rage of late in the streaming world, they’ve mostly been of the 1990s sitcom variety ("Saved by the Bell, "Sex and the City," "Fresh Prince of Bel Air"). But now the 1972 classic film "The Godfather" is getting revisted in the upcoming TV series "The Offer."

“The Offer” is not exactly a remake of “The Godfather,” but instead centers around the backstage goings-on during the making of that venerated mob movie classic.

Paramount+ has just released the first trailer from “The Offer,” and the fast-moving clip promises to delve into lots of epic drama while luxuriating in a grainy, brown/tan 1970s period-piece look.

And rather than only focus on the production drama, the trailer also hints at the cultural blowback the film received before it even hit screens.

While this might all sound a bit “in the weeds” for casual fans, keep in mind that any film production involving “Godfather” director Francis Ford Coppola in his 1970s heyday was fraught with intense on-set infighting, massive budget overruns, and legendary studio conflicts.

Considering it will be a 10-episode series, it should be able to touch on many aspects of the making of that sprawling, iconic film.

As Yahoo Entertainment reported, “The Offer” is based on Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy’s “never-before-seen experiences” making the movie, and is created and written by Michael Tolkin.

Tolkin would seem to be a perfect choice to helm “The Offer.” He wrote the dark Hollywood satire, “The Player” (1992), which garnered three Oscar nominations, even though it skewered Tinseltown’s often sketchy morals.

In a case of art imitating life, “The Offer” itself has already had pre-production drama. Actor Miles Teller took over as the lead role of Albert S. Ruddy after Armie Hammer had to be replaced amid allegations of sexual misconduct by several women.

The cast is nonetheless stuffed with excellent actors, and they’ll have to be to play some of the mid-centuries most iconic figures of film and crime. Dan Fogler stars as director Francis Ford Coppola; Matthew Goode will play legendary producer Robert Evans; Juno Temple is agent Bettye McCartt; and Giovanni Ribisi plays real-life crime boss Joe Colombo.

“The Offer” premieres on Paramount+ on Thursday, April 28.
