An American Airlines airplane suddenly dropped 150 feet mid-flight for no apparent reason and had to be grounded in New Orleans before reaching its destination in Tampa, according to an airline statement.

Flight 2401 out of Dallas Fort Worth experienced a phenomenon known as Clear Air Turbulence, severe turbulence that occurs out of nowhere in the middle of a clear sky, and it left eight passengers and two flight attendants injured. Paramedics took all 10 to the hospital when the plane landed at Louis Armstrong International Airport.

The incident was immortalized in a public post on Facebook by Sheri Parsley-Najera, who was on the flight and offered her eyewitness account of the carnage.
